Day 25 July 5, 2008 - GuataVita - At the Legend of El Dorado

So I have not figured out how to alter the sequence of photographs yet. Maybe will become better by the time our trip ends. Recommend starting at photo # 5 with Jorge Rico below.
Chris and Andres. She is stronger than she looks!!

The lagoon from the top.

Another shot with the lagoon as the back-drop

The theater in town - not sure what movie is playing.

The Ringer's (Larry and Andres) and us set out for a day long visit to Guatavita, a small town about 2 hrs away. This is where the age-old legend of El Dorado was born. Is now a protected enviromental site of remarkable beauty. Is a must-see after you have settled into Bogota.

En route we stopped to buy a few saplings for planting at Guatavita. In this manner there is constant addition to nature.

Above is Jorge and his 1976 Dodge Dart (I call it the Green Boat) that is being filled with natural gas. More environmental friendly (and cheaper) than regular fuel.

All of us. At the far right is Cindy, older daughter of Jorge and Patricia.

After a fair hike, we reach the mountain top from where you can see the enclosed lagoon at the bottom. Beautiful, with pure air (and tougher to breathe due to the elevation).

Backdrop of the countryside. A different view of Colombia.

The center of town. We had lunch here. An item on the menu was 'rabbit' - an absolute no-no for vegetarians like my wife. And me too, even though I usually try everything.
