
This is the south side of Bogota, which is a very poor area. There are many stray animals and very poorly maintained homes.

This is the school just built and opened for this area to encourage and help the indigent population succeed. There is a new Mayor in Botota who is focusing on equality of the people to improve the basic lifestyle of every class.

In Candelaria, they sell corn and grain to feed the pigeons who are so accustomed to being fed, they will eat from your hand.


When you tip the statue to support the arts, the dancer starts moving very quickly. Nikhil and I were so startled, we jumped and the children behind were roaring with laughter.

On this side of Bogota there are many strays, unlike the residence. We fed this one lunch and he was very greatful. He was very gentle and obedient, the guards thought he was loose from the police force.

A local artist in the Candelaria district. He carves images of Colombia in wood of varying shapes and sizes.

Mateo, the Llama waits at the top of the hill on the way to Candelaria to greet children and tourists and earn a living for himself and his owner. Candelaria is the "Old City" of Bogota and has many important landmarks.

Nikhil and out tour guide/driver Jorge Rico. Jorge is full of knowledge about Colombia and their history and is a pleasure to tour with. Jorge has been working with adoptive families for 18 years.

The most beautiful church in Bogota, which is generally the location for any important events for the political leaders of Colombia.
